If Britain Had Fallen

I spent today at the library, and got this book:

... which has a cover with striking resemblence to the opening scene of the post-WW2 chapter of GrigorPDX's immensely fun Guard game.

An Alternative to Forge's GNS Theory

"I propose a different theory of gaming, and, in honor of Jeff Rients, name it GFS Theory. The "G" stands for "Giant", the "F" stands for "Fucking", and the "S" stands for "Spiders".

The theory's basic tenets:

1. Holy shit!
2. Giant fucking spiders!
3. We're in trouble if we don't think of something!
4. Oh, no, they got the professor!

Its use should be obvious."

Character Quiz Thing

List out 12 characters (before looking at the questions), and then answer these questions.

My results:

1. Ork the Gobber (Iron Kingdoms)
2. Vuldr the Nordheimer (Conan)
3. Duncan Stewart (Buffy)
4. Jimmy Nine-Fingers (GURPS Guard)
5. Quill the Surgeon (Black Company)
6. Brother Applebry (D&D: Umpqua)
7. Bok Lung, the half-orc pirate grappler (Eberron)
8. Harunosuke (BESM: Eyes of Edo)
9. Igor the Paladin (Iron Kingdoms)
10. Ryan Masterson (Werewolf, nWoD)
11. That One Dwarf Trollslayer (Warhammer FRP)
12. F'nord diMedachi (Online Freeform)

1) Who would make a better college professor: 6, or 11?
Applebry is a monk of a knowledge god (before he became some water-spirit person), and would be ideal for actually learning things. A dwarven trollslayer would make for much more entertaining classes.

2) Do you think 2 is hot? How hot?
Being a heterosexual male, and Vuldr being a sweaty muscular viking, not especially.

3) 12 sends 8 on a mission. What is it, and does it succeed?
This works out well, since they're both of magical persuasions. He sends him to recover a tome of Things Man Was Not Meant To Know But Just Had To Write Down In Some Book Anyways. The mission is successful mainly because the rest of the Eyes are roped into doing it.

4) What is, or would be, 9’s favourite book?
The holy book of Morrow (in Iron Kingdoms), or Men of Iron by Howard Pyle (in the real world).

5) Would it make more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6, or the other way around?
It makes more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6. Applebry is unlikely to be loyal to a mercenary viking (not to mention an uncouth one!).

6) For some reason, 5 is looking for a room-mate. Should they share a studio apartment with 9, or 10?
Ryan, because he's a tad too much of a bastard to get along with a paladin, and Quill can dissect a werewolf repeatedly.

7) 2, 7, and 12 have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss?
They find a tavern with lots of cheap food and strong alcohol, and discuss fighting, looting, burning, and fighting. 12 feels like the odd man out, being a wizard. He just makes sure they don't accidentally kill one another.

8) 3 challenges 10 to a duel. What happens?
Battle of the Scrawny Bookworks with Unnatural Strength! It's bloody as all hell while they fight, but after a while they settle down and discuss horror movies and the fact that they're both living in them.

9) If 1 stole 8’s most precious possession, how would they get it back?
An army of little origami men would sneak about and steal it back, and then Ork would have a curse (possibly involving intense itching at inopportune moments) put upon him.

10) Suggest a title for a story in which 7 and 12 both attain what they most desire.
Blood, Guts, and Money: or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Axe - in which Bok Lung and the Trollslayer fight everyone and everything, ending in the Trollslayer's spectacular death and Bok Lung sitting atop a pile of loot.

11) What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 4 and 1 to work together?
They're both, through magical mishap (when Ork falls down the pit and next time Jimmy is chronoported) stranded in a strange world and must fight to survive.

12) If 7 visited you for the weekend, how would you get along?
If he's reasonably liquored up and well fed, I might survive to see Monday.

13) If you could command 3 to perform any one task or service for you, what would it be?
"Create for me a giant robot, that I may rule the Earth. And a small one, to do housework."

14) Does anyone on your friends list resemble 11, either in appearance or personality?
I don't normally keep the company of axe-swinging suicidal alcoholics, so not especially.

15) If 2 had to choose sides between 4 and 5, which would it be?
Jimmy, since a boomstick is more impressive than a scalpel, and Vuldr has no need for a healer anyways.

16) What might 10 shout while charging into battle?
"GRAaAWAAAARRGHAFRAAAGHEGHOOOOOWL!"

17) If you chose a song to represent 8, what would you choose?
Something very transcendental sounding by Material, with bamboo flutes.

18) 1, 6, and 12 are having dim sum at a Chinese restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left, and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets to eat it?
Applebry is too polite to take it, and F'nord uses a "Hey, get a load of that short green lady over there!" to distract Ork long enough to take it.

19) What might be a good pick-up line for 2 to use on 10?
"Come with me or I'll burn your horses and steal your house!"

20) What would 5 most likely be arrested for?
Hiding corpses in barrels of rum.

21) What is 6’s secret?
He doesn't wear anything under his robe.

22) If 11 and 9 were racing to a destination, who would get there first?
Igor, by virtue of having a magic horse, and the Trollslayer having stubs of muscle and bone for legs.

23) If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, would you feel safer in the company of 7 or 8?
Harunosuke, since Bok Lung may be the one you're probably trying to avoid when walking home on a dark night.

24) Ork and Igor reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by Jimmy’s sinister secret organization. Trollslayer volunteers to help them, but it is later discovered that he/she is actually a spy for Jimmy. Meanwhile, Jimmy has kidnapped F'nord in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of Quill, they seek out Duncan, who gives them what they need to complete their quest. What title would you give this fic?

Something Awesome This Way Comes

Suspenseful choral music begins, akin to 'Duel of the Fates/Corn on the Cob' from Star Wars III.

Announcer: It was the awesomest thing of 2003...

Scene of a horde of robed cultists kneeling in the shadow of an ominous colossus, vaguely crab-shaped.

Announcer: It rocked like nothing had before...

Scene of a tiny car crashing through a plateglass window, as clowns with automatic rifles spill out in an unending stream.

Announcer: But now, your world will be ROCKED TWICE AS HARD!

A lumberjack smashes a skyscraper over Godzilla's head.

Announcer: Twice the coins...

Scene of panicked midgets fleeing from an avalanche of change.

A: Twice the badass...

Scene of a katana wielding, trenchcoated Chuck Norris dueling with a cyborg Mr. T.

A: Twice the lack of known limits!

Music picks up into a rapid techno beat as scenes of lasersharked awesomeness flash past - robot dinosaurs, people with swords wider than their torso, cowboys with M-60s, ninjas fighting pirates in mechs, Vin Diesel headbutting people through walls - before ending in a large explosion from which text flies and settles on the screen:
